About Me
I’m a middle school English teacher with a BA in English and Creative Writing. My short story “She Blooms at Night” is set to be published by OwlCrate Press in the fall of 2024, as one out of five debut authors. In 2022, my web novel Blend won a paranormal Watty award on the teen-obsessed app Wattpad after being reviewed by a team of editors. Blend also received recognition for “Best Characters.”
I am half Black, half white and have always struggled to find my identity. Even today, as an adult, I make new discoveries about myself. Many of my works reflect biracial protagonists aching to belong. I also like to explore how microaggressions force Black people to ignore or confront them, especially in predominant white spaces, and how the impact of that creates a lot of pent up trauma. And I hope to make a small dent in Black representation in the fantasy and sci-fi genres.
Today, I live in Arizona with my fiancé, our three little doggies, and one alpha-cat. When I’m not passionately shouting at thirteen-year-olds to love reading as much as I do, I’m usually drafting or editing a current writing project on my phone, because every moment counts when you’re a writer and have a full-time job! In the summers, I hibernate as much as possible and run on ice cream and slushies to survive the brutal heat.
